Happy 2020!
As we welcome in the new year (dare say it, the new DECADE) we can be met with a sense of urgency. The need to set goals, the desire to DO MORE. But we don’t have to fall into that trap! For years I would set these {ridiculously unattainable} resolutions (lose weight! eat healthy!) and spend about a month working on them before I would get thoroughly burnt out (duh), throw in the towel, and then spend the next eleven months filled with remorse and shame because DAMMIT I COULDN’T EVEN ACCOMPLISH THAT ONE {completely ridiculous} GOAL!
Well, not this year. This year I decided to look at the new year as a fresh, new chapter in my life’s work. An opportunity to set the tone for how I would like to spend my year. So instead of a resolution, I chose a word. A word that represents, for me, a feeling I would like to experience throughout 2020. A feeling that I would like to help others to experience. Something that I can reflect on when I take on new projects, new ideas, need to make decisions, or weave throughout our life at home.
How did I find my word? I reflected. A LOT. I tried a few others on for size. Ultimately, I leaned in to my intuition. And then I displayed my word around my home as a reminder of how I want to spend my year. Do I expect to consistently live according to my word? Honestly, no. I’m human. BUT when I’m feeling a bit less than I can return to that word, embrace it, and move forward. Because, as the (old and cheesy) saying goes, time marches on. Therefore, so should we.
Do you have a word for the year? A goal? Want to share them? Comment below!
