Coping

Well friends, 2020 has been quite the doozy, wouldn’t you say? Our lives look very different than they did just a month ago. Amidst all of the changes in our routines, availability of certain grocery items (hello- toilet paper?!!), and worry over the future, we have a flurry of emotions to manage within ourselves. I am constantly seeing messages of picking up new hobbies or catching up on old projects. And YES! These are wonderful things we can do now that we find ourselves at home more! But how do we balance our emotions when we start feeling bad when we AREN’T doing those things? That maybe during this slow time, what ACTUALLY sounds good is REST? Prior to this whole pandemic our society was in the ‘glorification of busy’ mindset (myself included). To me, it seems we’ve just traded one type of busy for another. Now don’t get me wrong, I get it! Hell, I haven’t blogged again until now, right??!? But what if instead of reconnecting to ALLLLL of those old hobbies, or trying ALLLLL the new ones, we allowed ourselves to just BE? To intentionally hold space for ourselves and those we’re with to see what happens? To respond to those pangs of boredom with full, big breaths before rushing to do something new? Because maybe what you really need is permission to do the things YOU need to do, not what you think others expect you to do. Whatever you’re doing to cope, give yourself some grace. This is uncharted territory for us all, and we’re just trying to find a new path. Just remember to PAUSE and BREATHE.
